Overview

A torrefied spruce top for more mature tone.

Part of their 700 Series line, this 714ce Limited Edition Brazilian Rosewood Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric guitar features top-of-the-line custom elements artfully incorporated by Taylor Guitars' Master Guitar Designer, Andy Powers. This guitar was designed for tone, though the Brazilian rosewood back and sides are certainly the star of the show visually. The combination of Brazilian back/sides with a torrified Sitka spruce top is very rare, especially at this price. And if that wasn't enough, this Grand Auditorium was constructed with Adirondack Advanced Performance 800 Series bracing – Taylor's most recent bracing advancements, with lighter and stronger Adirondack spruce used to supercharge the top and bring out more volume and projection. With Brazilian rosewood in limited supplies, this guitar the guitar of a lifetime for discerning players who seek detailed, complex tone from a rare combination of features and materials. The 714ce Limited Edition Brazilian Rosewood Grand Auditorium ships in a deluxe hardshell case made by Taylor for optimal fit and protection.

Body Shape
A Taylor original, the Grand Auditorium helped establish the Taylor acoustic sound. The popular body style makes for a versatile guitar that yields ample volume in response to light fingerpicking, and reacts to medium strumming and flatpicking with a clear, balanced sound across the tonal spectrum. If you want a great all-purpose instrument, the GA is an excellent choice.

Tonewood Pairing
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. This custom Grand Auditorium features a special seasoning process for the spruce top called torrefaction, a method of roasting the wood to produce an aged tonal character with greater acoustic resonance and responsiveness. Brazilian rosewood is considered the holy grail of tonewoods and produces the fullest, wide-spectrum sonority in an acoustic guitar. With its sweeping frequency range - deep lows that assert a throaty growl, mids that cut through a mix, and sparkling, bell-like highs - Brazilian rosewood rings out like no other. Similar to its Indian rosewood cousin it yields a full-range acoustic voice with volume, depth, complex overtones and extended sustain. It can be said that Brazilian rosewood possesses the best of what each of the most prized tone woods has to offer. The Brazilian rosewood used on this model is 100% CITES compliant.

Electronics
Taylor's ES2 is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in Taylor’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Because the pickup doesn't sit under the saddle, the bottom of the saddle comes in full contact with the bridge, allowing all the nuance of the guitar's tone to come through clearly whether playing acousticly or plugged-in. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before while playing plugged-in. Together with Taylor’s custom-designed “professional audio”-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your Taylor guitar. The Taylor Expression System 2 operates through a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment and easy-to-use volume, and active bass and treble controls.

Special Features
Premium features and appointments include: custom-calibrated wood thicknesses/bracing, torrified top, protein glue (bracing and bridge), grained ivoroid binding, Heritage Diamonds fretboard inlay, CITES-compliant Brazilian rosewood back/sides/tail strip.

The Taylor Difference
What sets Taylor Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable, playable and service-able necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

Torrefied spruce top
A special roasting technique accelerates the aging process, yielding the rich and responsive tonal character of an older guitar. The technique gives the tops a slightly darker complexion that resembles cedar.
